Are You Ready To Go? (Psalm 103:13-18)

All it takes is a car accident, a heart attack or even an unprovoked act of violence and your life is suddenly ended . Everything that you are or were ceases to be and all of your hopes and unfinished dreams will never ever be realised. The bible puts it this way………………”The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. (psalm 103:13-18). Few of us know just when we will be shedding this mortal coil and most of us still have lots of unfinished business yet to be taken care of in our lives. Yet we seem to live as if tomorrow will never come. Death is almost thought of as something that happens to everyone else or our elderly friends and relatives. In those lonely hours of the night when we are alone with just our thoughts many of us ask the question, what is it all for? We push such thoughts to the back of our minds resolving to eat drink and be merry whilst we can. To live life to the full snatching everything that life has to offer us during our relatively short time on earth.

What if there is a God? What if he is searching your heart right now measuring your response to the things you have seen and heard about him during your life so far. If you believe that then just for one second you may also be able to accept the idea that God alone knows whether you believe in his existence or not. The bible recons that if you are aware of God and understand that Jesus died to reconcile you to God but you still choose to go your own way you have a big problem. As a christian I really wish I could tell people something different, but I can’t. The bible clearly states that unless we accept that Jesus opened the way to God for us we are on our way to some place called hell. Those in the know tell me that hell is being able to see the glory of Gods heaven but never able to get there for all eternity and that sounds like a long long time.

People often complain to me asking why Christians feel that they need to point out to everyone else that they may be on their way to hell? The short answer is that they care. Ask yourself this. If you believed 100 percent in the existence of God and that a place had been reserved for you in heaven but you also knew that those you loved including your kids, mum, dad and dearest friends were on their way to hell would you keep it to yourself? Remember Jesus said, “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’ But he replied, Truly I tell you, I don’t know you. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour. (Matthew 25:11-13)   None of know just when we are going or worse still when those we love may be taken from us so maybe its time to take a look here
